Diversity Art Festival
NYU Tisch's student-run festival
The Diversity Art Festival is a student-run event that was founded by NYU Tisch student Katie Grant 5 years ago. Our goal is to create a place of growth and safety for diverse voices in NYU community. We aim to celebrate diversity and advocate for inclusion in the arts by showcasing artwork submissions from NYU students. We also feature panels with high profile industry professionals who deeply care about inclusion.
One of the reasons why Amaya became a filmmaker was to bring new diverse voices and stories to film. Therefore, it was inevitable that she joined the Diversity Art Festival at the start of her freshman year.
Amaya’s first role within this organization was as a member of the Graphic/Social Media Team. She worked closely with the head of her department to create graphics that will be used to promote the festival on social media. One of the main tasks that she carried through the year was creating and designing the artists’ inspirational quotes using Photoshop. Additionally, she also created the 2019 festival’s marketing poster. Then the following year I became the Vice-President of the Diversity Art Festival, where she worked closely with the President in organizing the festival. At the same time, she continued to create other graphics for the festival for the 2020 festival.
Apart from graphics, Amaya has also been involved in moderating panels for the Diversity Art Festival. It’s extremely important to discuss and inspire the rising artists at NYU and abroad. She hopes that these panels provide guidance and perspective on the importance of diversity and how our society could archive it.
